Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck: An Intro to Food for Kids

Sesame Street has been an important entertainment and educational asset for children (and caregivers) for generations. And now, as I’m a parent and my toddler is in need of both entertainment and education, we’ve got a Sesame Street spin-off that’s become part of our journey.

Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck stars the titular character and his pal Chef Gonger. The pair receive requests from friends for specific meals and then get to work. However, there’s a catch (because there’s always a catch) and it’s that there’s always one ingredient missing from the recipe.

Note: Our family was first introduced to Gonger as the chef in The Furchester Hotel. It’s a fun show too and if your kid loves Elmo, I recommend checking it out.

The adventure in all of the short videos (thank you Sesame Street for making them short) is all about finding the ingredient. But they don’t go to the grocery store, they start the engine and drive their food truck to the source. Cookie Monster and Gonger visit farms, factories, and more in search of pumpkins, jelly, oats, and all kinds of ingredients. And that’s when we do our learning.

I don’t want to spoil the ending, but it’s always happy.

I will say this, if you’re looking or a cooking show to make your kids better helpers in the kitchen, this ain’t it. Apologies.

At just over 5 minutes, these short videos are fun, funny, and you’ll learn a little something along the way. There are 24 videos (including a 1 hour compilation) in the official Sesame Street YouTube playlist – CLICK HERE! And I’m going to put three I love in this post so you can have a little taste.

Enjoy. And happy learning!
