2021 Goals – Being Realistic but Moving Forward

I went into 2019 with a ridiculous list of 200 goals for the year. It was unrealistic. I went into 2020 with a list of 30 goals and 5 big ideas/energies – and we all know what 2020 did to our goals and plans and execution. So, now here we are heading into 2021 and I’m stripping things back again. There are only 15 goals on this list. They are less. extravagant. They are more realistic.

Note: I still stand by the 5 Big Ideas thing. It holds up!

5 Big Ideas We’re Taking into 2020 💡

Here’s where we’re at… the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over. We need to be safe and healthy and get through this as we wait for more vaccinations and community safety and a return to whatever the new normal will be (what we’re in now is not the new normal – stop calling it that and don’t let conspiracy theorists do it either!) – so flipping the calendar to 2021 doesn’t magically fix anything. We’re all still in this and we’re all still in this together.

So my recommendation for you is the same as it is for myself – set goals or resolutions this year that are maybe less outrageous that in past years. OR make your giant, hopeful, star-reaching, goals (I do love them, and we should all be reaching for big things if we want them!) but add in some smaller, achievable life goals that you can check off and feel good about and get some wins in 2021.

I just want y’all to be safe, healthy, happy, taken care of, and if we all get that – we’ll be ready to do this in a bigger and better way for 2022 a year from now.

Happy New Year. ❤

Guest on or host a podcast talking about parenting or music or sports or whatever. I’ve only ever guested on one podcast – and while I’ve done a lot of interviews (in-person, phone, Zoom, email) I’ve never done a full-out podcast.

More board game nights with Jess after Ollie goes to bed. We went a full calendar year between games of Qwirkle (Dec. 31, 2019 – Dec. 31, 2020) and that’s too long. We’ve also got Scrabble and Yahtzee just sitting there waiting for us. And more. And if you have good 2-player games that can be played semi-quietly, please send ’em over!

Listen to more audiobooks on Audible… including the ones I’ve already got in the queue: A Promised Land (Barack Obama), Dolly Parton, Songwriter (Dolly Parton), The Skin We’re In (Desmond Cole), Becoming (Michelle Obama), Talking To Strangers (Malcolm Gladwell).

Be more productive in the evenings – but not to the detriment of work/life balance – and only if it’s something that I’m really being paid well for OR really want to do.
