Daddy on the BBQ!

One of the biggest perks of living in our new home is the BBQ. I’m 39 years old and I haven’t had a place of my own with a BBQ ever. It’s been apartments and condos and no grilling for a long time.

But not anymore!

On our first weekend in the house, my mom and step-dad came to visit and brought us the little BBQ that they aren’t using anymore (plus the stand and full tank of propane), and we set it up that day to make hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. It was a great little housewarming visit, and the beginning of my new BBQing adventures.

Since then I’ve fired up the grill to cook dinner about twice a week. We’ve gone through more hot dogs than ever before. We’ve enjoyed the smoky flavour and change of our old cooking routines. I’ve enjoyed cooking and being more helpful.

It’s been great.

So far I have BBQ’d…

🔥 Hot Dogs
🔥 Hamburgers
🔥 Sausages
🔥 Chicken Wings
🔥 Chicken Breasts
🔥 Potatoes & Onions
🔥 Cherry Tomatoes & Onions

And I can’t wait to get steaks and pork chops and drum sticks and new veggies and more on the grill to cook up. I’m excited for it.

You could even say that I’m fired up!

While we’re here, we should talk about beer!

Beer and BBQ go together like peanut butter and jelly. So when I’m cooking on the deck and/or when we’re eating what comes off the BBQ, I like to have a beer. It’s nice.

And lately, that’s meant having some small brewery beers, which is also nice!

Very close to our place is Oshawa’s All Or Nothing, and Jess made a stop to pick up some cold ones from the brewhouse for me once already. I’ll be going back for more. And more again.

Not as close by, but available at our local farmer’s market, is the Bobcaygeon Brewing Company, who have a lovely red ale called Dockside that I very, very much like.

There are other local breweries that I’m looking forward to sampling soon too. And if you have a favourite in the Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, Whitby stretch of Durham – let me know so I can bump them up on my list.

I’m a lucky dude. Have been for a long time.

And now I’m feeling lucky to have a BBQ on the back deck, food to cook on the grill, and a family to eat with with. And beer.

ps. BBQ season doesn’t end when the weather turns, we’re just going to move it into the garage.
