20 Maybe Ridiculous 2020 Major League Baseball Predictions – Results!
The 2020 Major League Baseball regular season has come to an end, and it’s playoff time baby!
That means that it’s time to look back at the 20 Maybe Ridiculous 2020 Major League Baseball Predictions I made to see how I did. And honestly, it could have been way worse.
1) The season could have been cancelled before it began or at anytime time during as we saw positive tests and clubhouse outbreaks.
2) The whole thing could have seriously been mismanaged even more than you may feel it was.
3) My predictions could have been way further off the mark.
Here’s hoping you enjoy the 2020 MLB playoffs and that you favourite team or player is still in the hunt for a ring when you read this.
Good luck!
20 Maybe Ridiculous 2020 Major League Baseball Predictions – Results!
The best record in baseball will be 42-18. – The Los Angeles Dodgers went 43-17!
Someone will lead the major leagues in home runs with 19. – Luke Voit hit 22 to lead the majors. Jose Abreu was 2nd with 19.
Nobody will crack 60 RBI. – Jose Abreu lead the majors with 60 RBI.
The major league leader in pitching wins will have 6 (and there will be 3 or more of them). – Shane Bieber and Yu Darvish both had 8 wins.
Someone is going to get hot and flirt with .400, but even in the shortened season, it’s not going to happen. – DJ LeMahieu ended up leading baseball with a .364 average. So even in this weird short year, .400 was safe.
The average runs per game will get to 5+ (per team) for the first time since the 2000 season (5.14) thanks to unstretched out pitching arms and the National League DH. – The 2020 regular-season average ended at 4.65 runs per game.
The trade deadline (August 31, 2020) will be very very quiet. – Not so much.
The New York Yankees will be good. – They were good (and sometimes not) finishing with a 33-27 record.
The Boston Red Sox will be bad. – They were bad. Finishing with 24-36 record and some questions about what comes next.
The Washington Nationals will not repeat as World Series Champions. – The Nats finished 24-36, last in the NL East and will not be going to the playoffs or repeating as champions.
The Toronto Blue Jays will go 37-23. – Not quite. They ended the season with a regular-season record of 32-28.
No managers will get fired during the 2020 MLB season. – By my count, none were as the regular season ended.
We’re going to see more pitchers as pinch runners – and it’s going to be weird and fun. – I don’t think we did.
The 3 batters per pitcher (unless the inning ends) rule is going to bite a bunch of teams and cause a lot of people to call for it to be reimagined. – It was a pain in the ass for a lot of teams (the Blue Jays for sure) who had to keep it in mind when going to relievers in a tired bullpen.
The Houston Astros will lead the league in batters hit by a pitch. – Nope. And that’s a shame.
Bo Bichette (Blue Jays) will finish in the top 5 in American League MVP voting. – Missing almost half the season to injury really took this one off the table.
Nate Pearson (Blue Jays) will make the roster and then make some noise in the Rookie of the Year voting in the American League. – He’s going to be a star, it was awesome to see him starting games, and now we’ll see him in the bullpen if this playoff run is anything to smile about.
Mookie Betts will win the National League MVP and lead the Los Angeles Dodgers back to the World Series. – Currently undecided. Look out for Fernando Tatis Jr. and the San Diego Padres.
Yasiel Puig will be signed within 10 days of the start of the regular season and have an impact. – Did not happen.
No regular-season game will go past 12 innings – the man on 2nd base rule to start the 10th inning is going to work right away to shorten those games. – Wrong on this one. It didn’t happen much, but it did happen!
A team that looks like it’s headed to the playoffs is going to go on a 7-game losing streak to end the season and miss the playoffs entirely. – 5 Teams ended the season with 3-game losing streaks, including the Houston Astros who still managed to make the playoffs with a 29-31 record.
