20 Maybe Ridiculous 2020 Major League Baseball Predictions!
Baseball is coming… for better or worse, and I think I’m ready for it.
To say that there are significant risks to starting the shortened MLB season is an understatement. With the travel and interactions and ferocity of the COVID-19 virus, I don’t know if I believe that this is all super safe. BUT, I am hoping that things go smoothly, that players, coaches, umpires, and staff stay healthy, and that we get baseball.
With all of that said, I love baseball and I’m glad it’s back. I can’t wait to put the game on and cheer for the Blue Jays and watch highlights from around the league and scoreboard watch and enjoy the sprint.
It’s going to be weird. It’s going to be unlike anything we’ve ever experienced as fans. And at the end, if everything goes according to plan, someone is going to win the World Series and that teams’ players and fans will celebrate.
Before we get to the first pitch on July 23, 2020, I’ve got 20 predictions for the MLB season.
There are team predictions and player predictions and statistical predictions. Maybe they’ll be right, likely they’ll be wrong – but I can’t wait to watch and find out.

⚾ Someone will lead the major leagues in home runs with 19.
⚾ Nobody will crack 60 RBI.
⚾ The major league leader in pitching wins will have 6 (and there will be 3 or more of them).
⚾ Someone is going to get hot and flirt with .400, but even in the shortened season, it’s not going to happen.
⚾ The average runs per game will get to 5+ for the first time since the 2000 season (5.14) thanks to unstretched out pitching arms and the National League DH.
⚾ The trade deadline (August 31, 2020) will be very very quiet.
⚾ The New York Yankees will be good.
⚾ The Boston Red Sox will be bad.
⚾ The Washington Nationals will not repeat as World Series Champions.
⚾ The Toronto Blue Jays will go 37-23.
⚾ No managers will get fired during the 2020 MLB season.
⚾ We’re going to see more pitchers as pinch runners – and it’s going to be weird and fun.
⚾ The 3 batters per pitcher (unless the inning ends) rule is going to bite a bunch of teams and cause a lot of people to call for it to be reimagined.
⚾ The Houston Astros will lead the league in batters hit by a pitch.
⚾ Bo Bichette (Blue Jays) will finish in the top 5 in American League MVP voting.
⚾ Nate Pearson (Blue Jays) will make the roster and then make some noise in the Rookie of the Year voting in the American League.

⚾ Yasiel Puig will be signed within 10 days of the start of the regular season and have an impact.
⚾ No regular season game will go past 12 innings – the man on 2nd base rule to start the 10th inning is going to work right away to shorten those games.
⚾ A team that looks like it’s headed to the playoffs is going to go on a 7-game losing streak to end the season and miss the playoffs entirely.
