Talk About Peace – a Musical Message from Sharon & Bram and Friends

In my work at thereviewsarein.com, I get to write about a lot of music and I love it. But, I got an email recently about a song and a video that fit so perfectly here that I’m switching things up a little bit.

Sharon, Lois & Bram were a massive part of my musical childhood. I remember singing along and watching The Elephant Show in the 80s and the trio stuck with me in my memories of learning to love music when I was a kid.

And as a dad, I’ve been playing music and singing and dancing with Ollie since literally the first moments we were alone together. More recently, we’ve been doing more kid songs to go with the pop, rock and country he hears – and Sharon, Lois & Bram are part of that. When I say “Hey Google, play Sharon, Lois & Bram” I know I’m going to going to get Skinnamarink and I love that. I also love that Ollie has learned the song to the point that he’s started doing the actions that go with it. It all makes me very happy.

All of this is to say that when I got a PR email with Sharon & Bram and Friends in the subject line I was instantly paying attention.

Along with a lot of friends, Sharon & Bram have released a new video for the song Talk About Peace. The track was originally written by Sharon’s husband Joe Hampson (The Travellers) and was updated by their daughter Randi for this recording and release.

It’s part hope part protest song part catchy ditty and just as much (or more) for parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles and adults of all types as it is for kids.

There’s a lot to deal with in the world right now. We know that in Canada we have a lot to fix to create and maintain true equality. We know that around the world there are fights for the same equalities. And we know that war rages on, whether it has headlines or not.

Maybe the message is too simple. Maybe it’s just simple enough so that people can grasp it. I don’t know. What I do know is that it hit me right. And that I wanted to share it.

Hit play on Talk About Peace. Listen to it with your kids. Listen to it with other adults. Share it. And try to live its message.
