20 Maybe Ridiculous 2019-20 NHL Predictions! πŸ’

It’s time for another NHL season to start, and hockey fans across North America are started to zero in on their favourite teams and putting their hopes or fears into what’s going to happen over the next few months.

As a Montreal Canadiens fan, I’m not exactly sure what to expect other than biting my nails a lot and cheering when something good happens. Will they make the playoffs? I don’t know – but I have a prediction.

I’ve also got 19 other predictions, some are serious, some are a little wacky, some will come true, some won’t. I’m not an expert, but I’ve watched a lot of hockey over the years. Plus, who doesn’t love a new season?

Ready? Let’s get to it!

20 Maybe Ridiculous 2019-20 NHL Predictions!

πŸ’ 1.Β The 2018-19 season total of 7577 goals scored (not including shootouts) will be passed on the way to 7600+ total goals scored this season.

πŸ’ 2. Four Canadian-based teams will make the NHL playoffs.

πŸ’ 3. The St. Louis Blues will suffer a post-Stanley Cup swoon and miss the playoffs in the Western Conference.

πŸ’ 4. Carey Price will continue to be one of the upper echelon goaltenders in the league and will be a Vezina Trophy finalist.
AND
πŸ’ 5. The Montreal Canadiens will make the playoffs in the NHL’s Eastern Conference as the 8 seed.

πŸ’ 6. We’ll get Toronto Maple Leafs vs Boston Bruins in the playoffs (again).

πŸ’ 7. Captain Jack Eichel will lead the Buffalo Sabres will be lead in scoring and the team will make the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

πŸ’ 8.Β Gritty will make the 2020 All-Star game in St. Louis as a write-in candidate.

πŸ’ 9. Toronto’s John Tavares, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner will combine for 125 goals in the 2019-20 season.

πŸ’ 10. Patrick Laine will score more goals than any member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

πŸ’ 11. Ottawa Senators fans will hold a parking lot protest with signs, bullhorns, and organized chants against with much maligned owner Eugene Melnyk the subject of their vitriol.

πŸ’ 12. Evander Kane will repeat as the penalty minute leader in 2019-20, and by more than the 38 minute margin he had last season.

πŸ’ 13.Β The number of total fights during the season will drop again, dipping below the 226 from the 2018 -19 season.

πŸ’ 14. Phil Kessel will score a career high 38 goals or more in his first season in Phoenix with the Coyotes.

πŸ’ 15. Alexander Ovechkin will score at least 42 goals in the regular season, getting to 700 mark in his career.

πŸ’ 16.Β This is where the “Don Cherry says something so over the top inappropriate and unacceptable that it can’t be ignored and he has to be suspended by the CBC” prediction goes. Part two of this prediction is Cherry’s right-leaning/old-school fans clamouring about people being too sensitive and too PC and killing free speech.

πŸ’ 17. The Edmonton Oilers will surpass all expectations and make the playoffs.

πŸ’ 18. The Calder race will come down to Hughes vs Hughes vs Makar but not Kakko.

πŸ’ 19. Look for the New Jersey Devils with Taylor Hall, PK Subban, Wayne Simmonds, Jack Hughes, and starting goalie Cory Schneider to be the best team of the NYC/NJ trio.

πŸ’ 20. The Toronto Maple Leafs will lose in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Dallas Stars.
