Facebook Flashback – 25 Random Facts About Me

Remember back before we had blogs, and Facebook notes were new, so we all wrote long posts and tagged our friends, I do. Mostly because they keep showing up in my Facebook memories when I look at them in the morning.

And with so many of them popping up lately, I decided to go back and do a new version of an old favourite – 25 Random Facts About Me.

1. My morning routine includes making 6 cups of coffee in the old school drip machine in our kitchen. ☕ #xocoffee

2. I have lived in Garden Hill, Newtownville, Port Hope, Newcastle, Peterborough, Pickering, Ottawa, and Toronto. 🏠

3. In 1998 I went on a 10-day field trip to Europe (Paris, Nice, Florence, Rome) and haven’t been out of Canada since. 🇫🇷🇮🇹

4. I’m a pretty decent axe thrower for a guy that doesn’t throw axes very often.

5. I was the first kid in my kindergarten class to lose a tooth (teeth?) when I went face first into the ice at a skating lesson. ⛸️

6. I wore braces in middle school, in part because of an 11mm overbite.

7. I chipped the same front tooth twice. 1) When I was about 9 years old and threw a ball up in the air and lost it in the sun, and it caught me in the mouth on the way down. 2) When I took an elbow to the mouth during a game of outdoor handball in gym class in grade 5. 🦷

This ends the dental portion of the list.

8. I once won a trip to Great Wolf Lodge by jumping rope on morning TV. I gave the prize away. 📺

9. Exactly one month before my 18th birthday I hit black ice and wrecked my car on a backroad on my way to school in the morning – and I was very lucky to walk away from with nothing more than a few bumps and some soreness. 🌳🚗

10. Batman is my favourite superhero, but I also have a great affinity for the Green Arrow.

11. Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho are my favourite all-time wrestlers, and I stand by those choices.

12. My favourite all-time piece of fiction is Hamlet. 💀

13. My 5 favourite Disney movies are (in some always fluctuating and floating order) Aladdin, Beauty And The Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Sword In The Stone, and Robin Hood. 🎥

14. Between playing and watching, my 10 favourite sports are baseball, basketball, hockey, football, volleyball, curling, figure skating, axe throwing, soccer, and dodgeball.

15. My top entertainment choices (right now) are CW’s Arrow, WWE programming, Toronto Raptors games, and Bill Simmons and Ringer NBA Show, and Binge Mode podcasts from theringer.com.

16. Without having a true number, I’m confident in saying that I’ve sung more than 1,000 songs at karaoke (not 1,000 different songs, but have sang songs that many times). 🎤

17. I really don’t like gender-norm bullsh*t. I wore a french braid in my hair for a while a couple summers ago (including at WayHome), because it looked great with my haircut. I admire the hell out of boys and men that have the talent and put the time into becoming great with colour and makeup. And I think that a dude like Ryan Morgan with his hair and beard colour and makeup tutorials and such is a great role model for boys and men who feel the same way I do.

18. When I was little I wanted to grow up to be play 1st base for the Toronto Blue Jays and be a police officer, but they couldn’t know about each other. That’s what my mom tells me. ⚾👮

19. I really enjoy cooking, especially when I can play with recipes or use leftovers and make it mine. 🍳

20. I took half-day French Immersion (Extended French) from grade 5 to 8, plus extra French classes in high school, and graduated with a Bilingual Certificate. 🏫

21. I was the co-Prime Minister of my high school student government.

22. The smell of tabacco pipe smoke reminds me of my Gramp and makes me happy.

23. One of the things on my goal list, since I was way too young to be thinking about it seriously, was to be a good dad.

24. I have an extended family that includes 1 brother, 3 step-brothers, and 2 step-sisters. 👦🏻👦🏻👦🏻👦🏻👧🏻👧🏻

25. I consider myself to be a very fortunate guy.
