Life Changes…
On September 8, country artist Thomas Rhett released an album called Life Changes. The next day I sat down to review the record for thereviewsarein.com. In that post I called the album the most aptly named of the year. At the time I had no idea just how apt it would be to me.
Earlier that week, after months of talking with my girlfriend and preparing and planning, I gave notice at work, resigning my ad agency job to work on my website full-time with some freelance writing on the side. My boss told me the timing was perfect to strike out on my own. Still young enough to go for it, passion for the project, no kids.
On that Saturday afternoon, we went to a housewarming party for family and my news spread. At the party we hung out with my 9 month old nephew (who I have loved utterly and completely since the first time I held him when he was 8 hours old) and played.
What we (I) didn’t know on Tuesday, when I gave one month’s notice at my job, or on Saturday when I snuggled my baby nephew, was that by the end of the week we’d be stopping to buy a pregnancy test.
And on Sunday morning when she came to me in bed as I woke up, we had no idea that she’d be telling me that she should probably schedule a blood test to confirm because it looked like we were going to have a baby.
In a week I went from quitting my job with a plan to spend a limited amount of savings while I chased my dream – to a dad to be with no job and a new dream to add to my plan.
Terrifying. On a thousand levels.
Exciting on just as many.
On the title track of Thomas Rhett‘s album he sings “you make a plan and you hear God laughing, life changes and I wouldn’t change it for the world”.
Like I said, even before I knew, the most aptly titled record of the year.
