Is there always time to be playing on my phone? No. Are there times when I’m playing on my phone when I probably shouldn’t be? Yes. Is it a distraction technique? Also yes.

Whatever the reason I play, and whatever the reason you play, we all play. So today I decided to share what I play when I do reach over, unlock my phone, and get into daddy time distraction mode.

I’ve got my Top 5 Mobile Phone App Games listed in alphabetical order. I’ve included their app store descriptions and some of my own thoughts. Heck, I even hunted down some images and videos.

Take a look at the list and leave a comment telling me which games you play on your phone when the kid’s asleep or the kid is playing, or your partner is on active kid duty and you’re pretending that you’re somewhere far away.

Here we go.

Daddy’s Top 5 Mobile Games!

Baseball 9

Description: Enjoy fast-paced, realistic baseball game, featuring compact gameplay and informative stats. Play BASEBALL NINE to become the Legend League Champion!

Comments: I love baseball, and when I was looking for a new game to play on my phone a while ago I landed on Baseball 9.

This is an animated game that reminds me of old Nintendo in an RBI baseball kind of way. There’s nothing really realistic about it. But the gameplay and being in control of base runners, hitters (power swing, contact swing, bunts) as well as the fielding (which base to throw to) and pitching (pitch selection, pitch placement) makes it fun to play and immersive enough that I have to pay attention to what I’m doing.

Earning upgradeable players and increasing their abilities adds to the management side of things that the front office wannabe in me loves, and being able to change the batting order, replenish energy, and feel like I’m in control of more than just playing nine innings at a time is a win.

The quick game and AI inning-by-inning functions are also nice when I want to get through a chunk of a season in one sitting. But remember, you’re always more likely to lose when you’re not controlling your players yourself.

Note: I don’t often play with the sound on, but the ball, strike, and out calls by the umpires make Ollie giggle and it’s hilarious.
